چکیده
in this paper, hardness and tensile properties of welded zone of aluminum 1100 alloys by friction stir welding process was investigated and the effects of rotational and traverse speeds of tool on these parameters was studied. also the fracture cross-section of welded samples was investigated. according the results of this paper, the hardness of weld material is higher than base material and is increased by decreasing the rate of rotational speed to traverse speed. the yields strength of weld material is 70% of base material in best conditions due to the weak thermo mechanically affected zone around weld nugget, although in some samples the tensile strength of weld material is equal to base material. also the sem images of fracture cross-section of welded samples showed a ductile fracture during tensile test.

متن کاملFriction Stir Welding Process Optimization: Experimental Methods
Introduction The Friction Stir Welding (FSW) process is an innovative technique to join metals in the plasticity field, thus not reaching the melting temperature and consequently the liquid state as it happen in traditional welding processes. This feature of the FSW proved an enhancement of the fatigue behaviour and strength of the joints, leading some companies to adopt the process for the man...
متن کاملThe Strength of Friction Stir Welded and Friction Stir Processed Aluminium Alloys
Local strength of friction stir (FS) welds and FS processed aluminium alloys in heat treatable aluminium alloys is dominated by precipitation hardening. Strengthening due to stored dislocations is generally limited to 40MPa, and grain size strengthening is generally less than 10MPa. Local crystallographic texture can cause yield strength variation on the order of 5%. Published models for streng...
متن کاملExperimental Investigations on Microstructural and Mechanical Behavior of Friction Stir Welded Aluminum Matrix Composite
The welding of materials by applying Friction Stir Welding technique is a new solid-state joining technique. The main advantage of this method compared to the traditional joining process is that it minimizes problem-related to metal resolidification as the method incorporates no melting phase. In this experimental work, the effect of friction stir welding (FSW) technique on the microstructu...
متن کاملFriction stir welding of dissimilar alloys – a perspective
Friction stir welding does not involve bulk melting of the components that are joined. This has inspired attempts to exploit it for joining materials which differ in properties, chemical composition or structure, and where fusion can lead to detrimental reactions. The purpose of this special issue of Science and Technology of Welding and Joining was to assess the status of friction stir welding...
متن کاملLiquation Cracking of Dissimilar Aluminum Alloys during Friction Stir Welding
A liquation cracking mechanism of dissimilar Al alloys during the friction stir welding (FSW) is suggested in this study. To identify the mechanism, the precipitates were analyzed and Al-Mg-Cu phase diagrams were calculated. Electron backscattering diffraction (EBSD) analysis and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) were also conducted. In the same manner as constitutional liquation, at high hea...
